CASA 101: Information Sessions – these information sessions are for anyone who would like to learn more about the mission of CASA in the Heart of Texas. We talk about the work of our volunteer advocates including specifics of their job duties, requirements, helpful characteristics, commitments, time involvement, training offered/required, and the process of becoming a CASA. A current volunteer is often present to talk about their experience as a CASA.
We also discuss CASA Crusaders, a new volunteer opportunity for those who have the heart and passion for our mission but cannot, for whatever reason at this time, be a court appointed special advocate.
Would also be helpful for those interested in serving on our Board of Directors or possibly being a donor to support our mission.
These information sessions are held on at least a monthly basis. If you don’t see one posted here or on our FB page, please call our office at 325-643-2557 for more information. Joanne McCraw is our Recruiter/Trainer who schedules and conducts these sessions. Her e-mail address is email@example.com.
Pre-Service Training Classes – these training classes are the initial training provided to potential new volunteer advocates and consist of at least 30 hours of classroom time and homework time. In addition, at least 3 hours of court observation are required in CPS court. These training classes are held several times per year. Dates and times are announced primarily to those who have applied to be court appointed special advocates but may also be announced in the media, on this site, and on our FB page.
Fundraising Events – fundraising is a necessary activity of a non-profit organization. We have had Boots and Bags Bingo for the past 5 years and hope to continue that. Last year we did “A Tribute to George Strait” dinner/dance/concert on New Year’s Eve. We’ll be announcing upcoming fundraising events on this site as they come up as well as on our FB page.
Other Events – as a part of the community, we participate in Christmas Under the Stars, Cinco de Mayo, National Child Abuse Prevention month activities, and others throughout the year. You can look for these activities here and on our FB page.\
